Glass Cake is the musical moniker of Michelle Shofet.Her brand of low-fi deadpan pop is full of charm and dryly sung melodies. Glass Cake uses layers of digital fuzz from built in mics that crafts intimate but layered songs that end up sticking in the corners of your mind.
Examples of which include, "Friend Forever" whose baseline like guitar playing rolls under her wistful, borderline melancholy, and perhaps even nostalgic double backed vocals, and self harmonies.
Glass Cakes lo-fi approach almost becomes a cappella like at times, as the instrumentation is mostly sparse and at times relies on a beat box rhythm section.
However in perhaps her most heavily instrumented song, "Closet Ghost" she displays an exciting new side of Glass Cake. Starting with a simple clap along, it builds into a level busting electric fuzz 1:32 gem of a pop song.
All and all give it a listen.
